The Anik & Florian Podcast is BACK from Philadelphia and UFC 330 gave us EVERYTHING. Islam Makhachev is now 29-1 and 11 years unbeaten in the UFC, and he did it again against a genuinely well-prepared Ian Machado Garry. Jon scored it 4-1, the same way he scored the Volkanovski fight, and there was a head-kick knockdown in there that almost nobody would have predicted from Islam. Ray Longo puts it simply: Islam does what a champion does. He wins.
But the thing everybody is arguing about is the hugging. Kenny went off about it on X and doubles down here: we don't compete, we FIGHT, and if you're embracing a man every round you already said 'hello'. Ray agrees and thinks Garry had the whole thing written in his head before the cage door shut. RJ Clifford says Garry hugged Islam more in 25 minutes than he hugs his wife after a road trip. Kenny also makes the tactical case that Garry's approach actually made the fight CLOSER than it would have been, and that's where he and Ray go back and forth.
We also have to talk about Din Thomas. Retiring mid-fight as a coach and airing out his own fighter on live TV is something none of us understood, and Jon does not hold back on it.
