UC Santa Cruz and Cabrillo College are partnering on a groundbreaking housing project to provide more options for students facing housing challenges.
The Costa Vista Student Housing project is the first in California to establish a student housing partnership between a community college and a University of California campus, built on Cabrillo College property.
“That project is set to provide housing for about 400 Cabrillo students and around 200 UC Santa Cruz students, and really the idea is to make that transfer pathway that much more direct and seamless for students,” said a UC Santa Cruz representative, Scott-Hernandez Jason.
A local student can start at Cabrillo, spend two years there, and then plan to move to UC Santa Cruz, remaining in the same housing with the same community while attending school, the representative added.
Costa Vista will include single and double-occupancy rooms, family housing, and a child care center. UC Santa Cruz leaders say this project is part of a larger effort to expand housing options for students.
Earlier this summer, the university extended its housing guarantee from one year to two years for incoming first-year and transfer students.
