For this track I tried to go for a more traditional nordic folk-ish style which means a less melodic track driven mostly by the percussion and the traditional bowed instruments (Tagelharpa). This is a very specific type of music for a very specific audience as some people will find it boring for the lack of chord variations and memorable melodies. Because of that I "cheated" and added elements and harmonies that don't really belong to this style of music just to make it a bit more interesting not only to listen but , for me as well, to compose. PS: Some people will ask: there are no "lyrics". The main inspiration for this one was actually a synth lead , which you can hear starting from 1:13. It's a synth sound I love which is reminiscent of what Vangelis's used for his BladeRunner (1982) score. Using it as an alternative for the usual French Horn gives this track a very hybrid, powerful and open sound. Also, for the first time ever... a male lead vocal! The story behind this track is actually both a personal challenge and a mind clear. I am a fan of the cyberpunk theme, the colors and the scenery and every time I am looking for a background picture for my videos I always stumble upon some really cool ones for this genre. For the last 10 years I have been doing pretty much the same kind of music, evolving and trying to perfect my craft but few days ago, after looking at more pictures of this genre I thought to myself "Can I do it? If you missed my community post here on Youtube : "There are various reasons for the lack of videos in the past months. Some of those are more personal and I am not going to get into detail about those but professionally speaking I thought it was time to change some bad habits. One of those being the struggle to force and push myself to post every so often, like once or twice a month. The truth is that sometimes this task felt impossible to me and I was forcing myself to finish tracks almost in a rush, potentially compromising their full potential as musical pieces. This is something I will avoid from now on. "This doesn't mean there's going to be less music and one video every 6 months. I already have another piece of music finished and almost ready to "ship" but I will take my time and make sure everything is as perfect as it can be. So if it takes a month, or two, please be patient. About this piece:Valhalla, the place where the Viking / Norse warriors travel upon death. It is the first of many inspired by the Norse mythology which is a theme I wanted to work on for a long time. In the Norse mythology there are nine realms/worlds unified by Yggdrasil, the tree of life. My next album will be focused around those nine realms and other mythical places and figures of the Norse mythology. My main focus with this album is to create a more ambient style of music, more pads, ambiances, slow rhythms , always with a touch of orchestral instruments. But it doesn't mean there's not going to be "heavier" stuff. The dwarves of Svartalfheim don't work at the sound of cheesy music. Here's something a bit different from the usual. Every now and then I like to go out of the comfort zone and try to create something different from what I am used to. This also works as an exercise to prove myself as being capable of composing a bit of everything. I started doing this a while back with world music instruments and more recently with a more electronic track "Andromeda". "Lost in Time" is an attempt to create a western/cowboy scene piece . It is not classical western music and therefore I did not labeled it as one. For years I have been creating music that falls into a very specific fantasy world. Nowadays I am probably most known as a Fantasy Medieval composer because those themes/videos are usually the ones that give me more exposure(more views = more subscribers).The negative side of that is that I constantly feel "pressured" to make more and more music of said genre and this pressure turns into struggle really fast and that struggle into composer's block. It's a chain reaction with negative effects that constantly keeps me from being able to compose music.As you guys notice I am uploading a video pretty much once a month , which is not really bad for my standards but I feel like I could do much more with less trouble. Bottom line is: In order to keep making that kind of music that you all love (myself included) I will have to , from time to time, go places I usually don't which means composing something a bit different. Nothing too far fetched.I know a lot of you will understand this as I know that some of you won't. I like to think that most of the people who subscribe to my channel are interested in my work in general and not just specific genres with dragon pictures. Album: Age of WondersYear: 2016Copyright © BrunuhVilleMy new album "Age of Wonders" is finally here! Thank you all so much for the support that allows me to keep coming with new music over the years. I just want to talk about something really quick and be completely honest with all of you about this album and what it means to me personally and professionally. "Age of Wonders" has some of the best music I've done since I started composing music and I'm really happy with some of the songs in this album such as "The Realm of the Fallen King", "Wolfborn" and "Spirit of the Wild". I think that those 3 songs are masterpieces compared to most of my work in general. As you guys might have read some time back I had some issues with my hard drive which contained pretty much 80% of this album's projects. I've lost pretty much everything when the album was almost done and most of the stuff was irrecoverable. The main projects and raw files of half of these songs were gone. As a result of that there are a couple of songs in the album such as "Darkest Night" and "Herald of Justice" which I am not really happy with. The way they sound is not perfect and I am not happy with the final product that you will listen in the album. Some of you will notice more than others, depending on how trained your ears are . Probably most of the people will never notice anything unusual but a lot of you are music and sound nerds like myself and you will notice some quality issues on said tracks. Now, I did the absolutely best I could with the files I was able to recover to make the best sound I could possibly achieve. Was that enough for the nowadays music standards? No, not close. Truth is that my music was always like this in some way which is a result of a non trained musician/composer in the arts of mixing and mastering. It's a fairly new world to me and if you guys listen to my older albums there was no sound treatment whatsoever. I make music as passion because it's what I really like to do and I couldn't see myself doing anything else. I don't make music to be the absolute best at it or to make the best sounding music in the market although I am very perfectionist with my music and it's depressing to me when I am "forced" to sell a product to people which I don't like 100%, but there was nothing else I could do. Despite not being the best nor having the best sounding music I still appreciate and am thankful to everyone who supports my work either by buying my songs or just by coming on Youtube and watch my videos . It's thanks to you that I can still make music and keep coming up with new stuff every month and new albums every year or so. Just to finish, the album is free to stream on Bandcamp if you feel like not buying it or if you want to take a listen before buying it. It's a simple, slow starting melody with a very "Lord of the Rings"-ish feeling with that beautiful Cello sound that evolves into something I have been eager to compose which is Oriental/Asian music, hence the word "World Music" in the tittle. I am still "studying" some progressions for Oriental music so I can compose a full piece with that Asian feeling, which is not the case with this one. Also, I know the new album is taking a bit longer to come out. A lot of you have been asking when X and Y songs will be available on iTunes etc and right now I don't have a proper release date BUT I can promise that it will be out very soon. Here's a new song late this month called "Reverie". In musical terms a Reverie can be described as "an instrumental piece suggesting a dreamy or musing state". It brings harmony , peace and a sense of fulfillness in the end. ●Important note: Earlier this weekend while I was finishing this piece my computer hard drive just stopped working. While I am still in the process of trying to get my stuff back there's a big chance that my data won't be recoverable at all. There's a full year of work in there, pretty much all my new songs for the next release. On a personal note: I am extremely lazy. Every normal people would've backed up their work to avoid this situations but, while I did copies of some things, there's others I didn't back up and I feel like an idiot now cause I am one. There are so many of you waiting for the release of my new songs and new album and I just wasn't careful enough to put everything safe to avoid this situation. It's those things that you know it will happen sooner or later, you just don't know when. By the time I am writing this post the techs are still working to see if my data is recoverable and fingers crossed that they will be able to keep at least something. This particular song isn't 100% finished. There were a few tweaks that I was going to do before everything went south but I decided to upload it anyway because I don't feel like it's a bad song in anyway and I know lot of you will still enjoy it. Also I haven't uploaded in a while and I really wanted to put something out now so I can fix my stuff without having to worry about uploading in the next week or two. With all this said I just want to apologize to everyone who's always waiting impatiently for new songs while expecting the best quality and it troubles me knowing that I can do much better and right now I can't because of my laziness and stupidity. I let myself down and most importantly I let everyone else who appreciates my work down. We all do mistakes and we all learn from them. A couple of things to say about this one, specially about both video and song title. I had this idea to make a song that would be a mix of dark-ish ambiance and a strong medieval tune which I would call "The Witcher". Well that was my first idea for a tittle but soon I figured out that I had no actual picture to illustrate the song, at least one I could use. Because no, I can't just go on the internet and use whatever image I feel like without the author's permission. So I gave up on countless hours of searching and grabbed a picture from Geralt from the game "The Witcher" which I edited myself. Before you ask, yes, it is totally fine, the game devs are ok with people using material of the game for Youtube stuff. But then I was using the name "The Witcher" and I was using a picture from a game with the same name and I thought it would be a bit too much for the same video. So, to avoid any confusion I changed the tittle to "Wolfborn" because of Geralt's pendant/medallion so the picture could still match the song name in a way. Because I know that if I kept the tittle "The Witcher" using this picture there would be people clicking on the link thinking that it would be a track from the game when IT'S NOT and they would start complaining about this video being a click bait sort of thing. So yeah, long text because I like to explain myself . Hope you guys enjoy the song! PS: I aimed for a shorter song this time but for some reason it ended up being 8 minutes long . This one probably as a bonus track for a future album. So here's a song I've been working for the past month. Of all the 10min+ songs I composed this one goes on top as the most frustrating/hard/troublesome song I ever composed. Not only for its length but also for its 35+ individual instrument tracks which were a nightmare to mix and master decently. I know, 35 tracks isn't much for nowadays classical music, but to me it kind of was. Overall a fun song to compose which progressively got bigger and bigger everyday I sat at the keyboard to compose it. A big thanks to Sharm for once again helping me out with the voices and singing the lyrics I wrote for this piece. Lyricwise, once again, I want to note that I am NOT a writer of any sort, I have no real skills on that art neither I am native english speaker. I know that the lyrics might be a bit senseless to some of you but they mean exactly what I wanted them to and they "illustrate" perfectly the mood I wanted for this song. This is a live play without any edits, playing up to 8 instrument sounds which is a lot and actually hard to play them all at the same time and don't sound like a mess of instruments layered on top of each other. That's why you see my left hand's fingers always moving even if it sounds like the melody is constant. It's a trick I have been learning since my 14 years when I first had a keyboard where I could play piano and strings at the same time.The sound is a bit too "bassy" and not very clean cause as I said I did no edits or masterings. Sound is straight out of my DAW. Also a note for those of you who know this songs - I did a few mistakes, I'm sorry about that, but this is a cover /redemption, it's not meant to sound exactly the same anyway . This was one of those songs that I started while ago and was lost in between all my other projects. Here's how it works for me ( I'm probably not alone in this): I start a song, compose a bit of it, sounds basic, sounds bad, sounds generic and not good enough and I drop it. This happens like 5 or 6 times before I finish a whole song, which means I have dozens of unfinished songs. Some of them I will never touch them again. Others , like this one, I come back to it a few days or weeks later and I know that I can make something basic and generic to sound decently to share with you guys. I know I don't upload very frequently. I probably already said this a couple of times but I am a perfectionist with my work. I could upload a song every 2 days or even every day if I wanted to. But I like to upload only when inspiration strikes at its finest . And that can take up to a month to happen. That's why most of the time I only upload once every 3 or 4 weeks. Also, I'm writing a lot today, I had an idea about doing some kind of video diary everytime I am composing a new song. Basically me talking in a video about this stuff I write in the video descriptions. Just my thoughts and stuff like that. Let me know what you guys think. I also made some lyrics which Sharm will sing but my first choice for this song would be a male voice. I might or not upload the vocal version depending on how it sounds but believe me, the lyrics are very pirate-ish ^^- "The guitars sound fake and electronic" , I am also aware of this, obviously. At the moment this is the best sounding electric guitar I can make with the libraries I possess therefore I would like to ask you to look a bit ahead of that and try to enjoy the music without getting too much on the guitar sound. This said, here's "Sons of the Storm", a very fast paced song I have been working on for the last weeks. I know I have been composing a lot of stuff with drums and very action based which some of you might not enjoy that much. I apologize for that but I always try to come with a diverse variety of music and sometimes I am more inspired to compose this kind of music than Celtic or Medieval.
