Desmond Miles was the Assassin's Creed Modern Day protagonist from the original game all the way until Assassin's Creed 3. Yet it was clear as the games went on that Ubisoft did not have a plan for Desmond's character and that led to one of the more controversial story decisions in Assassin's Creed with how Assassin's Creed 3s modern day ended.
