Anicka Yi - The Art of Smell Creators 2017-04-21 | Anicka Yi creates intensive, sensory experiences using biological manipulation and living organisms. Smell is a major component in her work, as are the narratives behind the unusual materials she combines into disturbing, foreign combinations. In her piece Grabbing at Newer Vegetables, she collected bacteria from 100 female acquaintances to create a single female super-bacteria, as a testament to the biological networks that exist beneath our social reality. Her unusual art materials include Girl Scout cookies, batteries, ants, oxytocin-injected snails, and recalled powdered milk. Self-Portrait as a Buffet Table: David Henry Nobody Jr.s Extreme Food Art Creators 2017-03-29 | At the 2017 SPRING/ BREAK Art Show, artist David Henry Jr. created a culinary "tableau vivant," using his body and face as a canvas for exploratory food art. David begged the audience and his two co-performers to force-feed him as he sat immobilized inside a table covered in a buffet of vegetables, deli meats, and various unappetizing junk foods. Preparing for Mars: Orbit at the Whitney Creators 2017-03-27 | In February, The Whitney Museum of American Art presented Red In View (Orbit), a 10 day continuous performance art piece by artists MPA, Amapola Prada, and Elizabeth Marcus-Sonenberg. The project was a simulation of life in an enclosed habitat, which mirrors the experience settlers may one day find on Mars. For the duration of Orbit, the artists were governed by the climax clock, a schedule of moments of heightened intensity that allowed the performers to express themselves in the contained space. The project culminated in "Assembly," a final live performance outside of the enclosed space, in which the artists channeled their experience in Orbit and the "red emotions" - sexuality, anger, and human physicality, to reveal the colonizing effects of life on earth. Through this performance cycle, Orbit questioned the role emotions, creativity and radical expression might play in the future of space exploration. Original Sonic Score for Orbit by M. Inside Bjarne Melgaards Fashion Purge Creators 2017-03-22 | During New York Fashion Week, artist Bjarne Melgaard staged "The Casual Pleasure of Disappointment" to accompany a new exhibit of his line of distressed, destroyed and deconstructed fashion. During the event, Bjarne gave away his collection of designer clothes worth half a million dollars. People waited in line for hours for a chance to participate in the "purge," and those who made it inside were allowed to take as much clothing as they could fit into a plastic bag over a period of five minutes, leading to scenes of frantic, dystopian consumerism. Creators was there to capture the highs and lows and reactions of those who attended, and interview Babak Radboy, Bjarne's art director and collaborator, about the value of creating a disappointing consumerist experience. Reanimating Kubrick in Operation Avalanche | The Process Creators 2016-09-13 | We go behind the scenes of Operation Avalanche, a faux-documentary narrative following CIA agents tasked with faking the moon landing. As part of the research and creating a believable fake, the agents visit the set of Stanley Kubrick's 2001: A Space Odyssey, blurring all boundaries between film and reality. By framing their film as a period documentary, these filmmakers created a unique challenge for themselves: How to have their characters interacting with the real Kubrick in archival footage.
