How about a look at some of the features of the Tyton Pro-Trac from Swan Tool Group.

This unique tool lets you mark different angles, along with nice 90 degree lines.

The holes offset at 1/2 allow for convenient parallel line marking. If your make doesn't line up you just rotate the upper plate until it does and mark your line.

You can also mark centers on round objects like this 1" diameter birch dowel.
