VidCon showed us the best and the worst of YouTube Celebrity Culture. It's a serious business conference, a celebration of creativity, concerts, dancing, fun, trade show and, yes, an over-sold scream-fest that fleeces the fans by promising access to the stars—if only for a moment—if only they queue early enought.

Many more people want time with their idols than their idols have time for them.

It's a classic feedback loop: fans encourage YouTubers to feel privileged. YouTubers encourage fans to adore them.
