In July of 2024, the illustrator and designer Craig Frazier, and the photographer Craig Cutler, started a self-imposed challenge that would take one year and result in over 120 images. The project was called Two Craigs. A book titled Project 2 Craigs is due out by December 2025.
Both Craigs are 40+ year veterans of the design and advertising business. Both have resounding industry recognition and have prestigious client lists. Craig Frazier just published a monograph Craig Frazier | Drawn, and Craig Cutler just opened a one-man show at the Los Angeles Museum of Natural History.
All that said, they still had a few questions to answer:
What happens when there is no client, no marketing agenda, no budget and no practical application of the work we make?
What if the only objective is to interpret one word per week and have no conversation with each other? Repeat for 52 weeks.
What could possibly be learned from this experiment?
Craig Frazier and Craig Cutler will share the stage with moderator Joe Morse—renowned illustrator and Sheridan College educator. Joe will lead a conversation about the breadth of the project’s undertaking and the unusual nature of their collaboration. They will delve into the origin of the project, its changing arc over one year, and its contribution to their daily creative practices. The presentation will include a slide presentation of the significant body of work generated.
Attendee takeaways
1. Design, photography or illustration that is idea-driven performs the best
2. It serves us well to surround ourselves with people better than us
3. Performance is directly related to practice—often in a non-commercial setting
