This week was a strange one. Not much truly set the gasometer on fire, yet somehow we still ended up with meteorites, a twelve grand semi hollow, the worldโs most polite Mark Lettieri curveball, a surprisingly serious signature bass, and one of the coolest Gretsch releases in ages. It is a slow week for quantity but a very strong week for weird, rare, or just plain brilliant gear.
We kick things off with Tom DeLongeโs Ad Astra Ten, a set of one of a kind Starcasters dipped in clear coat mixed with actual moon dust and Martian gravel because apparently that is a thing now. Then we head straight into the Gibson Custom Shop Dave Grohl DG 335 in Alpine White, limited to fifty pieces and already gone before the ink dried.
From there, Peavey strolls in with a reminder that they have quietly powered six decades of bands, bars, and blown eardrums. After the history lesson, we dig into the PRS Fiore HH, which takes the original Fiore blueprint and adds a pair of humbuckers with series and parallel switching for eight usable tones before you even touch your amp.
Nearly pick of the week territory is the Epiphone Mike Dirnt Grabber G3. Three pickups, a Badass II bridge, and a proper modern take on a punk rock workhorse. Serious hardware and a serious price.
Then we land on the actual pick of the week: the Gretsch Abbey Road RS201 Studiomatic. Walnut stain, gold hardware, Bigsby, ebony board, hollow body construction, new Abbey Road voiced FilterTrons, and the clever Rumble Filter circuit that kills low end mud before it ruins your mix. Limited, classy, and far more affordable than you would expect.
