This is one of five songs I composed with the intent of using them in a short musical about the Ann Arbor Pioneer High School band camp experience. The musical was never written or performed, but I thought I would record this song because it was through this song in particular that I tried to capture the nostalgia of my band camp experiences and the longing one feels when a fantastic experience is about to come to an end.
This is just the piano accompaniment. At some point in the future I may record the vocals too. The (work in progress) lyrics are as follows:
I’ve got to live in the moment
But the moment’s almost gone
And I don’t want this to end so soon

PG movies I’ve already seen,
Making sure the freshmen clean,
Meeting kids and making friends
That I never want to leave
Polar bear, that icy thrill (Live in the moment)
I look like a boss at marching drills (Live in the here and now)
I drink chocolate milk at every meal
We’ve got twenty-two and a half
Reasons not to leave.
We’ve got to live in the moment
And we’ve done more than I could ever believe
And there’ll be thousands more moments just like this
But still there’re twenty-two and a half
