In 2007, when Scratch first launched, a slashdot article generated so much traffic that the single server the site was running on came crashing down. Twenty years later millions of children from around the world have created, remixed, and shared more than a billion projects. In this fireside chat, Scratch CEO and President Champika Fernando reflects on what it takes to nurture and sustain creative online spaces - and why Scratch's original vision is just as important today.
Speakers: Champika Fernando (CEO and President, Scratch Foundation) & Arana Shapiro (Chief Operating & Programs Officer, Games for Change)
Recorded at the 2026 Games for Change Festival, "Reimagining Play," July 21 to 22 at The Glasshouse in New York City.
