The May meeting of the VFS Commercial Air Transport (CAT) working group featured a presentation by Nick Lappos about the Challenges to the Commercialization of Advanced Air Mobility, including the technological, regulatory and legal hurdles to aircraft certification and urban traffic management. Lappos is a Lockheed Martin Fellow for Advanced Technology, and his team at the AIAA Certification Task Force have analyzed these challenges and consolidated their recommendations in a white paper.
Lappos has worked in a variety of roles at Lockheed Martin company Sikorsky, including as program director for the S-92 helicopter during its development and certification. He has also been a vice president for Gulfstream Aerospace, and a senior vice president and chief technology officer for Bell Helicopter, Textron. He has also served as Chairman of the Vertical Lift Consortium from 2012 to the present.
