Come with me on a private racetrack with 2 brand new Porsche, our BMW camera car and french tech YouTuber @hardisk (thanks again for the invitation go check his video) and his friends: @Micode, @CharlesSchiele (who have a nice masterclass in editing and shooting), @HelioxLab and pilot @RomainLanéry @RomainMONTI.
Rules inside the car:
- Only one person talks at a time.
- Only one person talks to the actor, through a walkie-talkie, and who doesn't press the walkie-talkie if it's to talk to someone in the crew. To avoid any confusion of who is talking to whom.
- The operator sitting in the front seat does not block the driver's mirror.
When driving on a racetrack:
- Locate the circuit on a map, learn it.
- Track Walk" if possible: walk around the circuit (or bike or car slowly) to locate each turn and the road conditions.
- Mandatory warm-up lap before filming: take the car, equipped with the material, the team (for the weight), and make a lap to realize concretely the gravity in each turn, where you have to accelerate and when to brake, this is also used as training to look for shots.
- Never reverse or reverse direction (except PC security warned).
When driving on an open road :
- safety and respect for the rules of the road are MANDATORY and always come before the shooting. I will not endanger the equipment, the crew, my license, the game car, pedestrians or other road users, even if we are close to a great shot and we have to take a risk (e.g.: poor visibility, crossing a white line), no risk for all these reasons.
When driving on a closed road:
- Always keep an eye on the road, because even closed for filming, it is often large sections, sometimes 1 km, you are never safe from a passerby who did not see the roadblock, an animal passing by, a natural event, tourists taking pictures.
In general:
- Think image, not speed. What counts is the shot, not your own trajectory, or the speed.
- System installed in the front: useless/unusable sudden acceleration phase.
- Think inertia and gravity.
- Take breaks to tighten up and check the equipment that is being serviced with the cold.
- Always stay calm, during the pressure periods at the end of the day.
- Soft and reassuring voice, you are the leader of the high risk shooting.
- Take your big turns on the outside, and the game vehicle on the inside, it will be more beautiful, dynamic and less taxing for the gimbal operator.
- Anticipate, you are driving heavy, loaded, stressed. Be progressive in your accelerations.
- Keep the production on the ground informed of your progress (sometimes they don't hear from you and this prevents them from calling you back, it adds professionalism to your performance).
