"Colonies," the new bio art collaboration between artist Vik Muniz and MIT synthetic biologist Tal Danino, features striking images produced from microscopic photos of bacteria, cells infected with viruses, and cancer cells. Transforming the chaotic world of cellular biology into scenes including traffic jams, circuit boards, and sports events, the series is an unparalleled fusion between art and science; in addition to utilizing cutting-edge disease-fighting technologies, proceeds from the artwork's sales will go towards funding cancer research.
