At Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, volunteers gather every week to make sleeping mats for the homeless using an unlikely material: plastic grocery bags. The bags are transformed into "plarn" or plastic yarn, which is then crocheted into mats for people experiencing homelessness. Not only are the mats beautiful, but they are also a unique way to reuse a material that could otherwise end up in a landfill.
