In this week's video, I’m taking a piece of Sycamore with a unique natural feature and turning it into something a little different.

When I saw the large knot and hollow in this log, I knew I couldn't just turn it away. Instead, I decided to use that natural framing to create a "Dragon Eye" effect. The project turned into a fully functional water bottle, which created some interesting challenges on the lathe.

To make the bottle durable and really make that grain pop, I finished the entire piece with a coating of resin. This gives it a deep, glass-like finish that protects the wood and the eye insert.

I hope you enjoy seeing how this transformation comes together!
