Visual storytelling in graphic novels and comic books is more complex than might be assumed at first glance. Creators use a range of tools to keep the story moving and to keep the reader engaged. Artists manipulate style, pose, page layout, panel design, color, etc., to emphasize turning points--that is, the places in a scene where a character's situation turns for the worse, or for the better. This talk will be about the graphic strategies used in storytelling. Through this talk, story tellers will be better able to appreciate graphic novels as an artform.
