I turned on one hidden feature on my phone and within minutes it detected hundreds of tracking attempts. Not one, not 10, hundreds. And the crazy part, it was all happening in the background without me even touching my phone.

here's what most people don't realize. The apps on your phone, they're not just doing what you see in the background. Many of them are connecting to trackers.
These trackers collect things like what you search, what you click, how long you stay on a screen. Why? Because your data equals money. So, I tested something. I turned on this hidden feature, left my phone for a while, and when I came back, my phone had contacted hundreds of trackers.
Even apps I barely use were active. The feature is called app tracking protection inside DuckDuckGo. And it's not just a browser feature. It works in the background, detecting and blocking tracking attempts from other apps.
Now, let's start with Android. And don't worry, I'll show you the iPhone version right after this. First, head over to the Play Store and install Duck.Go. Once it's installed, open the app.
Now, tap the three dots in the top corner. Go into settings. Scroll down until you find app tracking protection. Tap on continue and then hit continue again.
Now, tap on enable app tracking protection. When it asks for permission, allow it. And just like that, you're protected. Now, just use your phone like you normally do.
Give it a little time, then come back and check. What you'll see might actually surprise you. You'll get the total number of tracking attempts, which apps are now being protected, and which apps are still not protected.

Now, don't panic. This doesn't mean someone is spying on you personally. Most of this is ad tracking, analytics, background data collection, but still, it happens way more than people expect.
And if any hap stops working properly, you can disable tracking protection for that specific app only, so you stay in full control. Now, if you're on iPhone, for some reason, DuckDuck Go doesn't offer app tracking protection on iOS.
But don't worry, Apple already gives you this feature built in. Just head over to settings, scroll down, and tap on privacy and security. Then tap on tracking.
From here, you can easily enable or disable tracking for any app you want. Simple. And you're back in control. Now it's your turn.
