In this short video I show how you can take a decent pair of kitchen scissors (they should cut paper and stuff ok to begin with), and turn it into an excellent set of Kevlar shears. Kevlar has extremely strong, and slippery fibers. When you try to cut it with normal scissors the fibers start to slip over the edge, and pushes the blades apart. Extremely sharp scissors may work for a while, but they'll dull fairly quickly. The trick here, is that I'm putting a rough and random serrated edge on each blade. These little teeth grab the fibers while the blade slices through the Kevlar quite easily. In this vid I show it cutting through 4 layers of 1.8oz Kevlar like butter. It works just as well on 5oz Kevlar.

If the cuts ever start to look less clean, it can be freshened up again just as quickly. I've been using these scissors for years, and I've got a couple others I made from $5-10 scissors that work just as well.

The same can be accomplished with a medium course metal file, but it takes a fair bit longer. If someone finds an alternative, but quicker way (maybe using a Dremel tool), let me know.

[edit]This is 2nd version of this vid. Decided to show what happens when you try cut Kevlar with absolutely brand new $9 scissors.
The scissors I used in my first vid also have a bit harder edge so they can do things less expensive scissors cannot.
