Turn your fabric scraps into something you can actually WEAR! 🧵✂️
In this beginner-friendly sewing and quilting tutorial, I’m showing you how to make a quilt block from start to finish AND attach it to the back of a denim shirt for the cutest custom quilted look.
We’ll make the 12" Best of All quilt block using scraps from my sewing room, and I’ll walk you through the entire process step by step — including flying geese, half square triangles, accurate piecing, trimming your blocks, nesting seams, and putting the finished quilt block together.
Then comes the fun part: turning it into wearable quilting! I’ll show you exactly how I position and attach the finished quilt block to a denim shirt using a little stitch-in-the-ditch quilting and a zigzag stitch around the outside. I’m intentionally leaving the edges raw so they’ll get a soft, slightly frayed, rustic look after washing.
And you definitely don’t have to use the same quilt block or even a denim shirt! Use a favorite orphan quilt block you already have and add it to a denim jacket, button-down shirt, or another piece in your closet that needs a little personality.
This is such a fun scrap-busting sewing project and a great way to practice quilting techniques without committing to making an entire quilt.
If quilting has always felt intimidating, this is a great project to try. Take it one step at a time — you absolutely CAN make this!
