Here is a bit about the project- what fabric, elastic and pattern to choose:
Elastic: You can use shirring/bobbin elastic, very narrow elastic, and I'm going to try with some soft mask elastic (not sure about that)
All styles will have: Shirring around neck, down center front, and sleeve hems (like the photo on the right)
You can choose::
-Built on cap sleeve or separate sleeve (in photo above)
-Shirring on hem (photo above) or no shirring.
I'm starting with a T like the one on the left and making it like the one on the right - and I'll show all options. And yes, these are the exact same T-shirt.
Ideally your T-shirt will:
-Be a loose fit, not too tight, not too big.
-Scoop neck or gentle V- The deeper it is, the deeper it will get! The elastic will pull it down.
-Long enough to allow the elastic to draw it up.
-No neckband (just leave it off)
Fabric: My original top was a tissue weight jersey. The green and white above are both interlock. Heavier but still works perfectly well. You can always test your fabric with the elastic you choose to see how well it draws it up.
With bobbin elastic, we don't get much control over how much it will be drawn up. (white top above) With elastic you top stitch on to the top, you can cut it the length you want it to finish giving you some control.
Here are just a handful of T-Shirt ideas, if you already have one of these, you're set! Many of these are size inclusive. Some of these are free.
