Smart Home Junkie | Turn a Switch into a Light #homeassistant #tipsandtricks @SmartHomeJunkie | Uploaded August 2024 | Updated October 2024, 5 hours ago.
If you have a switch in Home Assistant that you want to treat as a light, go to Settings - Devices and Services. Then click on the Helpers tab.
Click Create Helper. Next, choose "Change device type of a switch". Find your switch in the switch field. In my case, it is sw_plug_7. Select your switch.
Now, choose the new type. In this case, it is "Light". Click Submit. Click Finish. Go to the devices tab and select your switch device. You will now see that both a switch and a light control are available. The switch control is now "hidden". Click on the light control, and you will see that your switch now responds as a light entity.
