Marilyn will share her progression of reasons for quiltmaking up to her current interest in art quilts. She will be showing slides of quilts she has made and will also bring several of her more eclectic quilts to share in-person.
Marilyn’s interest in creating with fabric began at a very young age when as a self-taught artist she “designed” and crafted clothing for her dolls. After many years of learning to sew by machine and creating garments for herself and her family, she became intrigued with the creativity in quilt making. Never one to follow patterns exactly, she found she loved to play “What if?” with the expected design and eventually this led to her interest in art quilts and creating her own designs.
Marilyn finds the range of expression in quiltmaking is constantly expanding and she is inspired by many things in her surroundings: nature, travel, color, line, photography, fabric dyeing. With each quilt she makes, she is looking to try something new.
