Just about every TTRPG with combat has some form of gear, weapons, armor, and the like. Even highly stylized and narrative systems usually have some way that being well equipped can help you out, and some systems use increasingly powerful gear as an entire axis of progression separate from character advancement. But how do you decide what gear is in the game and how individual pieces of gear work, as well as the whole equipment system? Different TTRPGs handle this question extremely differently, with some using gear slots as an inherent limiter for every aspect of the game, while others handwave most restrictions away.
