U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday compared the surprise U.S.-Israel attacks on Iran to the bombing of Pearl Harbor by Japan during World War II at the start of the meeting with Japanese Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi in the Oval Office.

Trump has been asking Japan and America's European allies to help ensure the security of the Strait of Hormuz. But some allies are displeased that the U.S. did not inform them in advance that it would attack Iran, and there is a sense of frustration that Washington began the war without consultation.
