Just weeks later, on August 11, 2026, a U.S. helicopter fired a missile at the Panama-flagged container ship Vela Nova in the Gulf of Oman, about 71 nautical miles off Pakistan. The ship was damaged in the stern and lost steering after allegedly ignoring warnings related to the U.S. blockade of Iranian ports. All crew members were safe.
