Critics are calling President Donald Trump tone deaf after he spent 40 minutes Wednesday giving reporters a tour of his new White House helipad and other construction projects.
The Washington Post reported the total of Trump's White House projects, including his planned ballroom, will cost more than $900 million. It was unclear how much of that would come from taxpayers.
The White House argues the renovations are long overdue. While the president placed gold coins on granite outside the White House and signed a slab engraved with his name, his war against Iran is nearing the six-month mark.
Amid concerns about the conditions and morale of troops on U.S. Navy ships, the national debt has reached a record $40 trillion, doubling what it was 10 years ago.
A new poll shows Trump's approval rating at a record low off 33%, mostly over dissatisfaction with his handling of the economy.
