I delivered this Zoom sermon, "True Sustainability: Cultivating a Repentant, Pro-Future (Indigenous) Heart and Mind" (27-min) on November 27, 2022, to the Unitarian Universalists of Gettysburg, PA. DESCRIPTION: What are key differences between truly sustainable cultures and today's attempts to greenwash our self-destructive and ecocidal civilization? How do Indigenous life-ways and practices inspire pro-future thinking, feelings, and actions?
HISTORICAL NOTE: One of the more common erroneous beliefs of members of colonial-settler cultures is the idea that "human societies have always been the same... Indigenous cultures are just as screwed up as we are". This is demonstrably false, as I show in several of my videos.
With respect to anthropocentric (human-centered and anti-future) civilizations, I highly recommend William Ophuls' little 75 page gem, "Immoderate Greatness: Why Civilizations Fail" TEXT: https://www.amazon.com.au/Immoderate-Greatness-William-Ophuls/dp/1479243140/ AUDIO: soundcloud.com/michael-dowd-grace-limits/immoderate-greatness-ophuls
With respect to ecocentric (life-centered and pro-future) cultures, I recommend ALL the resources discussed in the ten minutes beginning at this time-code of my longer program, "Sustainability 101: Indigenuity Is Not Optional": youtu.be/bCZqpdOM8sg?t=1462
