Ruth Ellis was the last woman to be executed in the United Kingdom. On the morning of the 13th of July 1955, Ruth Ellis, after having spent 3 weeks inside Holloway prison, was marched into the execution chamber and hanged until dead. In this video I speak about the UK's evolution and attitude change towards the possible abolition of the death penalty, which of course would eventually come into effect over 10 years after Ruth Ellis' execution. I also give a brief timeline of Ruth's life, how she went from a 14 year old waitress, to confident, independent business woman, to her confrontation with her lover David Blakely.

Ruth Ellis' execution would cause a stir within the British political sphere and in the minds of the British public during the 50's that definitely contributed to assisting in the eventual abolition of the Death Penalty in the UK. Ruth Ellis' story is one of great turmoil, sorrow, sadness and a life full of trials and tribulations.
