In this analysis, I take a look at our current True Crime wave by looking at the history of true crime and beginning to think about how we might contextualize and understand our own cultural obsessions. I look at true crime in the 16-18th centuries, True Detective magazines in the '20s and '30s, Truman Capote's In Cold Blood, and the TV shows of the nineties, before looking at today. I try to understand the themes and tropes underlying Serial, Making a Murderer, West Cork, the Teacher's Pet, and the Disappearance of Madeleine McCann.
