Some two thousand two hundred men of 6 Australian Division embarked on HMS Implacable lying offshore in Wewak Harbour. All troops appear happy to be going home and welcomed the news that they would be in Sydney, NSW, in four day's time. Troops were accommodated in the hangars and air crews' quarters. One aircraft lift was used continually to transport troops to the flight deck, saving much climbing of iron ladders. Tea was served morning and afternoon on the flight deck. Everything possible was done by the Royal Navy to relieve the monotony of travel.
