Australia, India and France, as prominent regional leaders, play pivotal roles in shaping security policies and cooperative efforts in the Indian Ocean region. But the challenges facing this part of the world go beyond the cooperation of three countries alone. Persistent maritime security challenges, including Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, threatens marine biodiversity, undermines sustainable fishing practices and regional economies of island states and coastal communities. Additionally, the threat of piracy, climate change, and territorial disputes and other transnational organised crime require regional actors to examine the broader impact of security in this ocean region.
This webinar explored these multifaceted challenges, with a particular focus on combating IUU fishing, and examine how collaborative leadership can enhance maritime security and sustainability in the Indian Ocean.
