A rare one — reviewing a watch I don't sell. But I needed a Tissot Gentleman 38 to develop an aftermarket bracelet for it, and after my factory got sent fakes three times trying to source one, I had to go to a brick-and-mortar retailer and buy one myself. So here we are.

Tissot Gentleman 38 — $850
Tissot Powermatic 80 (ETA 2824 architecture, re-engineered by Swatch Group)
21,600 bph (down from 28,800 on the original ETA) — trade-off for 80hr power reserve
Hacks, hand winds, exhibition caseback
38mm diameter, 11.5mm thick, 44.5mm lug-to-lug
Sapphire crystal, AR coating on underside
Push-pull crown, 100m water resistance
18mm bracelet tapering to 16mm, quick release spring bars, sized with screws
Polished center links, brushed outers and sides
Butterfly clasp with two half links included (no micro adjust)
Brushed case sides, polished chamfer accents
SuperLuminova on hands and markers
135g on bracelet — $850
Worth noting: the Powermatic 80 is effectively an in-house caliber since Swatch Group owns both ETA and Tissot. 80 hours of power reserve on an affordable automatic is genuinely impressive.
