Dr. Tremper Longman, Old Testament scholar, talks about why Christians believe the Bible is authoritative--it is inspired by God. “Inerrancy” is the idea that the Bible is true in what it intends to teach. Yet what does it intend to teach? Longman suggests, for example, that Genesis isn’t intending to give a scientific account of how God created, so Christians may accept Evolutionary Creation and inerrancy without conflict.
