This is a Treehopper, Alchisme apicalis? (ID by Marco Gaiani) from the Amazon rainforest of Ecuador in the family Membracidae. Treehoppers are insects related to cicadas and leafhoppers. Most treehoppers have a highly modified pronotum on the back, in this case camouflaged as the thorn of a plant. Treehoppers feed on plant sap which is rich in sugar.
