Lights! Camera! Science! In this video, the U.S. Department of Energy’s Argonne National Laboratory spotlights one of the lab’s most anticipated releases: the launch of the exascale Aurora supercomputer and the upgraded Advanced Photon Source.
Premiering in 2023, the Aurora supercomputer will be able to perform two billion billion calculations per second to help scientists investigate some of the biggest questions on everything from climate change to human health to the history of the universe.
Ready with new features in 2024, the upgraded Advanced Photon Source (APS) will use an x-ray beam 500x brighter than before. This enhanced light source will help scientists examine matter at the atomic scale, capture nature in motion in less than a billionth of a second, and will have greater precision than ever.
