A VERY close look at our Tomistoma for World Tomistoma Day! 🐊 The Virginia Aquarium houses one of just five breeding pairs of Tomistoma in the country, and helps to support the Tomistoma Task Force through conservation, research, establishing husbandry guidelines, and promoting the species. This task force, under the International Union for the Conservation of Nature, organized Tomistoma Day to share awareness on one of the world's most endangered but least-known crocodilian species. Our Tomistomas, Ralf and Sommer, are named after task force founder Ralf Sommerlad and have contributed to the population with two female offspring that hatched in 2022!
