Trails in the Sky is back with a full remake of 1st Chapter, and I got to dive into the demo to see how it stacks up against the original FC. From fast travel and modern QoL upgrades to combat system overhauls and new cooking mechanics, the remake brings Trails in the Sky into the modern era while keeping the heart of the classic alive.
In this video, we’ll compare the original Trails in the Sky FC with the new 1st Chapter remake, covering changes to:
- Quality of life features (fast travel, quest markers, dialogue log)
- Combat system (brave attacks, chains, S-Crafts, Zero Arts bonuses)
- Arts, quartz, and equipment adjustments

In this review, I’ll explain why the new content, added characters, and story expansions in Royal didn’t justify a full-price re-release. From the change to Merciless difficulty, to how the new story additions felt, my experience didn’t match the hype surrounding Royal.
Whether you loved Royal or felt it missed the mark, this review dives deep into both praise and criticism from a fan who played both.

This fight isnt too much of a challenge but the Duke can be an annoyance. I fought this battle at level 45 on Nightmare difficulty and aimed to keeping him alive to get the extra BP at the end of the fight. These kinds of optional objectives make the Trails series so much fun to play, even if they aren’t official boss fights.
