Fall is a time where we harvest, gather and give thanks for our blessings. There are many things outside of our control in the world but we can take responsibility for ourselves, our outlook and our home to be a force for good in the world. Embracing a slower, simple life can re-align our priorities in many ways.
With thanksgiving this season we can revive old traditions and adopt new ones and here is a vintage Canadian traditional recipe, popular in Alberta for the fall and winter season

Turnip Puff
6 cups turnips washed and cubed
3/4 tsp salt
few shakes pepper
2 TBSP melted butter
3 TBSP flour
1 tsp baking powder
2 beaten eggs
1/4 tsp nutmeg
Crumb topping
1/2 cup seasoned breadcrumbs mixed with 2 TBSP melted butter
Boil the turnips for about 10 minutes until tender. Drain and return to pot. Mash well. Add in everything else and combine.
Pour mixture into a greased 8 inch casserole dish and cover with breadcrumb topping
Bake at 350 degrees for 25-30 minutes
This recipe works well with potatoes too :)
