The TrackMania Grand League returns for 2020 with the first official season! This time around, I will not be sitting on the commentator's couch - instead I am on the racing tracks myself, holding up the flag for my new team Nordavind DNB.
With a slightly altered ruleset, 16 players representing different organisations from all over the globe will compete for the qualification into the playoffs where a prize pool of 10.000€ awaits.
Will 2019 champion Kappa be dethroned? Who will make it into the playoffs? Cheer for your favorite player & organisation!
Since I cannot stream my POV, I have recorded everything locally and recapped the race afterwards on my stream; giving you insight into my thought process and mindset, analysing situations and mistakes. I think this'll be quite interesting for most of you!
Third-person casts are available by multiple streamers in any case, though.

- 6 steps in the first phase (formerly 10 steps until the playoffs)
- 6 maps per step (formerly 5 maps per step)
- 6 laps per map (formerly 10 laps per map)

This is my personal best time and current world record at the time of upload on Stadium D08.
Former WR: 20.682 by Samuel (+0.037)
Another WR on a completely stupid map. Played this for no apparent reason and this is the result. I held the WR on this map back in MP3 so I kinda knew what to do but not really.
Not much to say about this one, its all about how well you can squeeze yourself under that sign. The more speed you maintain the better, but thats inherently going to make the followup right-left turn combination a lot more difficult to drive. Also, you want to find yourself as far left as possible after the sign hit for the best angle. Staying in the upper gear is just as important.
Im pretty sure this is still far away from the optimal strategy, I could possibly see a time close to 19 seconds drop for someone that maintains more speed and Tony Hawks his way through that part, I dont know. This record will probably get beaten sooner or later, Im already preparing myself for the next wave of freshly baked baguettes being thrown right at me.

This is my personal best time and current world record at the time of upload on Stadium A13.

A map where Ive always had an entry at the top of the leaderboard since its a mostly precision-based track, however at this point it is getting annoyingly precise. There isnt a lot of time left to be gained so the slightest error basically means a restart already.
Already the nojump zigzag in the very beginning can heavily vary in speed outcome, depending on the timing of the steering movements. Time discrepancies range between 0.01 to 0.03 if youre really unlucky, so the start is already decisive.
Coming up to the ramp cut, you want to slightly hit the ramp with your front left tire, resulting in gravity pulling the left side of the car downwards right after leaving the road. This will cause an early landing on your left set of tires which is required for the nojump setup at the downhill.
Steer left before landing, opt for a diagonal approach whilst facing the downhill and stop steering as soon as the right front wheel touches the ground. Restart steering as soon as all four wheels have ground contact again. Its a stupidly precise line but it works once you developed a feel for it.
For the next small jump, perform a small right steer before the jump and airbrake early to land on your back tires first. This will give you a speedboost.
Another decisive section is the meme bounce on the last downhill. The goal here is to land in a way that you have at least two wheels touching the ground throughout the entire landing process. You want to land on your back wheels first, meaning you need an early and very precise airbrake again. The further right you jump, the earlier you need to airbrake. There are no real visual cues here so this is also something that you will just pick up after time.
A proper landing will result in a hefty handstand sort of movement down the hill which gives you a significant speed boost if executed properly. Generally, the more extreme of a handstand you get, the more speed you get out of it. Since you are in freewheel mode here, every little speed advantage is very helpful.
For the end, pick the tightest possible line around the corner and try to hit the finish as far right as you can.
Understanding this track seems like rocket science in the beginning but it does make sense once you go further into detail.

I think theres not a lot left to be gained on this track. I can see something like a .48 or .49 being doable here since I lost a little bit of time at the back wheel landing after the first platform. Anything faster is either ridiculously lucky or requires new strats/approaches.
