Emily Martin didn’t expect to one day be studying rattlesnakes up close. But when the opportunity came, she took it.
Now, the U of I researcher is tracking what happens when prairie rattlesnakes are relocated. Do they return to where they came from, or adapt to survive somewhere new?
Through fieldwork in the Rocky Mountain foothills, Emily monitors snake behavior, movement and survival. Her research — conducted through U of I's College of Science and College of Natural Resources Idaho Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit — helps inform wildlife management and improve our understanding of how relocation impacts these animals in the wild.
