TRACES OF CRIMEA
A film by Vincent Moon
Documentary, France, Ukraine, 2024, 76 min
____________
Traces of Crimea is a feature film documenting the extraordinary cultural diversity of Crimea. In 2012, Vincent Moon traveled the country, bringing his singular cinematic vision to map the musical terrain of many of the country’s ethnic minorities. He brought back real treasures, a multitude of visual and sound stories which subtly weave together toward the larger impending narrative of the moment, as the spirits of the people sense the annexation to come. A strong, unique document, an ode to the beauty of Tatars, Krymachks, Greek and Bulgarian cultures, magnificently alive.
____________
Featuring Maqam Ensemble, Nina Bakshi, Qirim Ensemble, Khatyrsha-Saray Ensemble, Enver Seiturmerov, Elvira Sarykhalil, Galina Popova, Greek Ensemble Karachol, Rasim Kurtiev Ensemble, Chingine Wedding, street performances in Yevpatoriya, Lilia Fruz.

____________
On the 20th of February, 2014, Russia invaded and annexed the territory of Crimea, back then part of Ukraine. It started a slow process which culminated two years ago in the war with Ukraine.
Ten years later, on the 20th of February 2024, we are finally releasing the documentary we made in 2012 on the music of the ethnic minorities of Crimea. A feature length film documenting the extraordinary music and stories of the Tatars, the Krymachks, the Greeks, the Bulgarian communities and more
