We’ve racked up nearly 5,000 kilometres in the long-term Toyota Fortuner we have here at Unsealed 4X4, and we must say it is an impressive vehicle thus far. It has been used for everything from ferrying Editor Ev to the chiropractor, to birthday party runs (gotta love a 7-seater) and off-road trips every week or so. On face value it is an impressive 4X4… especially when you consider the pricing has recently dropped a few grand. But what lurks beneath this mid-size wagon? To get a better understanding, we decided to put it on the Molnar hoist we have in the Unsealed 4X4 garage for a closer inspection. We wanted to check for any exposed points and log-hanging ‘fruit’; and get a better understanding of how the vehicle works.

So, are there any surprises? Or has the Toyota Fortuner been built as a genuine off-roader?
