When the 13 colonies were first settled and the young Republic was established in the 1780s a collection of ideas and ideals could be described as American. That individuals and the new Nation failed to always live up to these ideals is understandable, fresh from Europe and rejecting these older ways of thinking and doing things. We can view this as an emerging American consciousness. After many false starts and deviations, I think we can see again in the national meta a continued process of consciousness formation. This will be the subject of tonight's show!
