The very beginning of one of the most popular bullet hell franchise started as a breakout clone, you could see elements of a shooter game but you cannot hurt the bosses with your normal shot, you'll have to use the Yin Yang sphere by either shooting at it to deviate or swing your gohei (apparently it's how they're called) to punch it far. You can also slide to go quickly from one side to another but be careful because you cannot deflect bullets with that.
This game is pretty rough and archaic (and quite hard to properly setup in emulation) yet has some charm and I like the visuals and sounds of the PC-98 era. I think had some fan made remakes but they don't have the same feel.

Touhou Reiiden ~ The Highly Responsive to Prayers (東方靈異伝 ~ The Highly Responsive to Prayers) is the first game of the Touhou Project, released for the PC-98. The game was finished in 1995, but it was shown to the public for the first time at the 20th Hatoyama Matsuri in November 1996. It was released at Comiket 52 alongside the Story of Eastern Wonderland.
