It was time to go back to my usual things. My goal this year is to rebound after the disastrous launch of Touhou Chouhatsuyou ~ Burgeoning Tresses of Longevity last year - a terrible Touhou Project fangame that made multiple worst lists of 2025 and ranked High Contamination on the AVGN's scale. It was finally time to grow up and ditch the fanservice that game had.
This game was first shown off at the Pittsburgh Anime Fest over the weekend, complete with a playable prototype. I had to prepare it for a week - it was like preparing something for a game jam and it was exhausting. I had not done an in-person playtest in six years - the last time I did this was for the original Chuhou Joutai in early 2020 before the world locked down.
Reception of the game so far has mostly been positive, though there were some difficulty balancing issues I had to address with the first stage. The vast majority of players who played it had not even heard of Touhou nor played a single game! They couldn't even make it to the midboss. I'll be getting to do another playtest next month at the Niagara Falls Anime Fest, with a second playable stage and hopefully Marisa as a playable character.
