First of all -- THIS IS NOT MY VIDEO. This video was edited by a friend of mine who goes by the username aerialesque (you can find a link to her channel below). She entered this video into Nan Desu Kan's AMV contest in 2016, and it ended up being one of my favorite videos in the contest. She sent me the video file so I could have it myself shortly after, but she never actually released the video publicly. Over the next five years, any time I would see her in person (and several times through Discord and other means) I would hound her to release it, but she never did (per aerialesque, due mainly to wanting to re-edit this using the actual series and not the OVAs...she never got around to it though). Finally, she gave me permission to upload this video to my YouTube channel and give her credit.

I can't tell you how happy it makes me that this video is finally out there, available to the world. It's one of my favorite AMVs from aerialesque, who already has a really strong catalog of videos from over the past 15+ years. I love its simplicity and sincerity, not to mention the editing -- the lyric sync in this is simply top-notch, the energy is perfect, the visual rhythm as satisfying as anything she's ever done. I really can't praise it enough, and it's been a staple video for me these past five years -- but only me! Now you get to share in it as well, and I hope you love this video as much as I do.

CrabTheSky - A Frank Discussion About AMVs feat. TRUTH CRAB

$CrackTheSky - Shards Its been over a month and a half since I completed this video and Ive been contemplating what I want to write here but everything has seemed inadequate. Ill do my best. Back at the beginning of 2017, a very close friend of mine passed away unexpectedly; she was a few years younger than I was and it came as a complete shock to me and everyone who knew her. It was one of the few times in my life where Ive been confronted by grief that seemed close to overwhelming me. I remember the breakdown I had the night I found out never have I felt quite as desolate as I did in that moment. It was terrible. Things have gotten better over the years, but every so often Ill be hit with a memory of her out of nowhere, or shell be in one of my dreams, and it all comes rushing back. This video is not about Jenna, but since that time Ive been wanting to make an AMV that communicates even a fraction of what it means to grieve the loss of someone close to you. Youll find an (admittedly somewhat abstract) exploration of this concept here although I didnt like Mawaru Penguindrum while I was watching it (like, at all), almost all the characters in it had lost someone important to them at some point in their lives, and a lot of the anime was showing how they worked through the grief of that loss. This was one of those videos where, as I made it, I felt much more sympathetic towards the characters than I ever did while I was actually watching the anime. Take from that what you will, but the anime ended up working really well with this concept. The video itself is very moody, and a bit looser than it probably could be from an editing perspective, but thats very much how I wanted it to feel. Im really satisfied with the way it came out, but even so this is one of the saddest videos to me, anyway that Ive ever made. I hope you still enjoy it. Thank you for watching.
