Tom knows almost everything there is to know about plants. Women are another matter entirely.

After three years in the city without finding fortune — or romance — painfully shy microbiologist Tom Cobbin returns home to his sleepy English village and takes a job as a gardener at the local country house. Then he meets Anya, a beautiful Polish au pair spending the summer in the village.

Tom falls for her immediately. Actually doing something about it may take considerably longer.

Fortunately — or unfortunately — the entire village is ready to help. Surrounded by eccentric friends, questionable romantic advice, village gossip, country pubs and a gloriously chaotic summer fête, Tom attempts to master something considerably more complicated than botany: asking a woman on a date.

Tortoise in Love is a warm, quirky British romantic comedy about falling in love very, very slowly — set against the gardens, pubs and traditions of an idyllic English village.
