Find a fell tree, long and straight enough for your bat. Kid’s bats are usually about 25 to 32 inches long and about 2 and half inches in diameter. Find the closest part of the branch to a bat’s size and cut it to length with a saw.
With a hatchet we’ll trim away all of the branches. Then whittle down the handle the best that you can to the shape of a baseball bat. Try to keep it as even as possible!
Use a draw knife to rough it into shape. Smooth the high points using rasps or files, whatever you have in the garage! Then sand, sand, sand, start with a coarse grit, then use a finer grit.
You can fill the cracks with epoxy and seal it with lacquer for a long-lasting finish. We chose to just wipe it down with some Wicked Wax for now.
