This video covers the installation of new ECM v1.5 boards on the 1100M and 770M machines to complete the upgrade to M+ and/or MX (when available). To order an upgrade kit or see details about determining your need for the ECM v1.5 board, visit: tormach.com/m-plus-servo-upgrade-kit

This board is required for an M+ or MX (when available) upgrade on the 1100M and 770M mills. To determine if you need this upgrade, open your electrical cabinet and check to see if you have the ECM v1.5 board installed. If your board isn't up to date, order the ECM v1.5 board to proceed with the servo installation.

$Tormach Garage Series, Part 6 | How to Choose Coolant Before cutting your parts, you have to decide on how to remove chips from the surface to prevent the chips from being pulled back into the cutter and recut, which will cause poor surface finish. Tormach offers several options: Flood Coolant or MQL, which stands for minimum quantity lubrication. Flood coolant is the traditional method of removing chips away from the cutting area with a literal flood of coolant. This is done through the use of powerful pumps that expel coolant out of a nozzle directed at the cutter. The coolant used is a mixture of purified water from an RO system or distilled water, and a coolant additive that helps lubricate the water, making the cutters job easier and will help prevent rust in your machine. Dealing with these large quantities of liquid based coolant will necessitate a water-tight enclosure and coolant holding tanks under the mill. Over time coolants can stagnate causing health issues, so its important to remove the surface bacteria with a skimmer kit. Tormach offers one with the Tormach Skimmer Kit: https://tormach.com/oil-skimmer-kit-1100m-770m-39298.html To verify the quality of the coolant in your tanks, a refractometer can be used to check on the concentration of coolant, as water can be lost to evaporation. Flood coolant is a powerful option to forcefully remove the chips, but that force can cause a mess. If youd rather not deal with all that coolant, then an MQL system might be a great match. This system reduces the amount of coolant to the bare minimum, some even call it near-dry lubrication.
